July 26, 2006 16:32 IST
Looking to add 2 lakh subscribers by next year, e-learning solutions provider Educomp
Solutions Ltd on Wednesday launched its new portal Mathguru.com, which will serve
as an online tutor to help students solve mathematical problems.
"For the current fiscal, the target is to have a subscriber base of 75,000. In the
next academic year we hope to add another 200,000 subscribers," Educomp Solutions
Managing Director Shantanu Prakash told reporters in New Delhi.
He said the company was eyeing a subscription revenue of Rs 7 crore (Rs 70 million)
to Rs 8 crore (Rs 80 million) in the current fiscal.
Commenting on the new maths portal, Prakash said the online programme has been designed
to help students from class 6 to 12 solve their math problems. It will provide step
by step solutions for all mathematical problems from the National Council of Education
Research and Training school textbooks.
While the portal would follow the maths curriculum as prescribed in the NCERT textbooks,
students from other boards like the CBSE, ICSE and state boards would also be able
to use the portal for their queries, Educomp Senior Vice President Abhinav Dhar
said.
Students would have to pay an annual subscription fee of Rs 1,200 for the programme.
However, under certain special schemes, schools would get a discount of 20 to 25
per cent if they subscribe to Mathguru.
Educomp focusses mainly on private schools in north and south India.
"There is easier access to Internet in these schools as compared to that in government
schools," Dhar said, adding students from other schools can also avail the facility
if they have access to the Net.
